Goals for 2022

One year seems to go by so fast. It’s already 2022! At the beginning of each new year, I set goals for the year ahead. So let’s go!

I hope to finish my Web Design program in the first half of 2022. I just have to complete the fifth and final course and I will be done. Then I can look for employment either as a freelancer or an employee of a media company. It will be nice to apply the skills I learned to help clients.

I will continue to create content. I have no goals for writing, but would like to upload 20 photos like last year. I think these are doable.

A new goal for me this year will be to become fitter. I would like to gain 5 to 10 lbs of muscle and lose 1 or 2 lbs of my belly fat. My old scale says I’m currently 130 lbs so hoping I’ll be 128 to 140 lbs at the end of the year. This goal is to help improve my health and cholesterol numbers.

Can’t wait to work on these goal! Here’s to a spectacular 2022! Happy New Year!

Goals for 2021

A new year is finally here. It’s time to set new goals for the coming year.

One of my first goals is to submit my novel for potential publication. I’ve worked on it for many years and I’m so glad it’s done and ready for scrutiny. Hopefully, the publishers will like it.

Second, I would like to finish my Web Design program this year. I have already enrolled in the fourth course. After that it’s just one more course then I’m done.

As for content creation, I will be modest this year. I don’t have a set goal for writing, but I do hope to upload 20 photos. My lowered goals for creation is related to my next goal.

I hope to gain employment as a web designer in 2021. If I don’t find a job, I will freelance or start my own web design business.

I think these goals are totally doable. I look forward to achieving these goals this year. I have a feeling it’s going to be a good year!

Happy New Year!

Goals for 2020

snow-20

It’s 2020!  The new year calls for new goals.  Let’s take a look at them now.

This year I hope to continue to work on my novel.  I will keep on editing and perfecting my manuscript.  Looking forward to another year of polishing it.

As for learning, I hope to complete two more Web Design courses.  This will bring the total completed courses to 4.  Then I just have to do one more in 2021.

I’m also hoping to create more content in 2020.  I would like to write at least 5 online articles for the year.  And I’m hoping to upload 20 photos.  I think these are totally doable.

This year’s goals are similar to last year’s.   I think they will keep me busy and out of trouble.  Can’t wait to accomplish these!  Happy 2020!

Goals For 2019

A new year has arrived.  That means it’s time to set my annual goals.  These goals are important as they help keep me on track and motivated.  Let’s look at these goals now.

My first goal is to continue editing/revising my novel.   I will not say whether I will finish it or not as I don’t really know how far I will get this year.  Just that I will continue to work on it.

I enrolled in an online Web Design course this winter at McMaster University.  My goal is to complete this course and perhaps take another one later in the fall.  I’m working towards a certificate, which requires completing five courses.  So this may take a few years.

Finally, I would like to set goals for content creation.  I’m hoping to write 5 to 10 articles for HubPages this year.   And 15 to 30 photos for Shutterstock.  The numbers are lower for 2019 as I will be busy with my online courses.

This year’s goals are similar to last year’s goal, but a little pared down.  I think these goals are doable.  Looking forward to getting these done in the new year!  Happy 2019!

Goals for 2018

IMG_0591The start of 2018 means it’s time for setting goals for a new year.  Setting goals help keep me focused on tasks and help keep me motivated.  Here are my goals for 2018.

The first goal is one that I set in 2017, but didn’t complete.  It is to finish revising my novel.  I’m hoping that I can finish editing by the end of 2018 and have something ready to be submitted by this time next year.

In 2017 I began to seriously study web design by learning HTML, CSS and Javascript.  For this year, I hope to finish the majority of the courses that I am currently taking.  I would like to finish the web design module in Lynda.com, and also an HMTL/CSS course on edX.  Additionally, I’m hoping to finish the Javascript/jQuery book by Jon Duckett .  So it seems that I have a lot of learning to do this year.

My last goal is to continue to produce content for Hubpages and Shutterstock.  My goal is to write an article a week or every two weeks for Hubpages.  That works out to be about 25 articles for 2018.  I’m also hoping to submit perhaps 25 to 50 images to Shutterstock.  I think these are achievable goals for content creation.

This year is all about writing, learning and creating.  I think if I keep at it I will be able to achieve these goals.  Here’s to a good year in 2018!

Looking back at 2017

IMG_1182  In the beginning of 2017, I set goals for myself.  Let’s see whether I have achieved any of these goals.  Here, is a look back at 2017.

I was hoping to finish revising and editing my novel by the end of the year.  This did not happen.  I’m still working on it.  It has taken more time than I expected.  I’m just not happy with the current draft.  I think it will take a while before I’m pleased with it.

For 2017, I wanted to earn an income from my artwork (my watercolours and photographs).  To achieve this goal, I put my paintings and some photos on Fine Art America in February.  So far I haven’t made any sales.  It’s quite disappointing.  I also put my photos on Shutterstock.  I was pleased that I was accepted into the program and that many of my photos were approved.  However, I haven’t earned very much from my photos.  I also started writing online articles on Hubpages.  Like Shutterstock, I haven’t earned very much from my writing either.  So it seems selling and earning an income on the internet has been very difficult for me.

Another goal was to learn and master Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.  This goal was mostly a flop.  I took a few Photoshop and Illustrator courses on Lynda.com, but I honestly can’t remember much as I didn’t get to practice on the actual software.   I decided not to purchase the software in 2017 (it was too much) so had no access to the programs and no way of practicing.

I did manage to make a new friend in 2017.  We met initially at a Christmas party in 2015, but didn’t talk to each other afterwards.   In the fall of 2017, she started to play badminton, a sport that I have been playing since 2015.  It was fun playing badminton with her and reconnecting.   We started emailing each other.  And later on, we went out for lunches a few times.  I now consider her a good friend of mine.

Health-wise, my anxiety was really bad this year.  My physical symptoms of anxiety are nausea, gagging and vomiting.  I would often feel like throwing up doing some of the most mundane things such as cleaning, going to the gym, flossing and brushing my teeth.   It was really severe when I had to go to the doctor’s appointment and particularly the dentist.  It doesn’t help that I have a sensitive gag reflex either.  I’m always afraid of vomiting at the dentist office, which so far hasn’t happen yet.  In any case, the anxiety and associated symptoms are very uncomfortable.

I have done many things to try to alleviate my anxiety, including going to the gym regularly, playing badminton, doing yoga, and deep breathing.  Some of these things help, but it hasn’t completely gone away.

Overall, most of my goals weren’t achieved in 2017.  But I think some of them are just initial steps in a much bigger endpoint.  So I will continue to turn these goals into reality for next year.  What I’m most happy about this year is for the friendship that I gained.  I’m also happy that I was physically very active, which helps to maintain mental and physical health.  Taken together, it wasn’t a bad year after all.

Hopes for 2017

The arrival of a new year means new goals or hopes for the new year.

My first goal for 2017 is to finish revising and editing my novel.  I started writing in 2015 and it has taken about a year and half to finish my first draft.  The story is about a schizophrenic graduate student who is trying to get his PhD, but is derailed by two psychotic episodes.  It mirrors my own life in a lot of ways.  So far the revising/editing is going quite slowly.  I also have times when I think the story wouldn’t work or it will get rejected.  Nevertheless, I have to remind myself to think positively and plow through.  I’m hoping to have a revised version for a friend to read to get her input and feedback by the end of the year.

In 2017, I hope to earn some income from my art work.  Currently, I am able to produce one watercolour a week.  I can also generate a few photos a week or every other week.  The most important thing is that I have to find a way to market my work and start selling it.  I know there are websites for selling art work, and that might be the likely way I will go.  I could also build my own website to show and sell my art work, but of course that would mean I need to invest some money.  I’m just anxious that I won’t be able to sell most of my work.  Negativity aside, I guess it’s worth a try.

This year I would also like to learn and master Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.  I will be taking some courses on Lynda.com that teaches these programs.  The only problem is that I currently don’t have them installed on my laptop.  To access them I would have to fork over about $600 a year.  It’s a big investment, but I think it will probably be worth it in the end.  I hope to use these software to enhance my photos and make digital art.

My final hope is to find another close friend in 2017.  I really only have one friend that I socialize with.  Having another good friend would be nice.  Someone to go for coffee, lunch, or visit the gallery with.  I’m not sure how I will meet this friend but I will keep looking.

It’s clear that the main theme of 2017 is art.  I just hope that I will have success with creative writing, painting and photography in the new year.  Here’s to creating!
